Interview on East Devon Radio, Sunday 26th March 2023
Brenda Duplock and Gina Woodcraft were invited to talk with Howard James on East Devon Radio on Sunday 26th March 2023 about the Budleigh Information Centre (BIC). They talked about its role in providing visitors and the local community with a wealth of information about Budleigh Salterton and the surrounding areas, and the challenges with raising the funds needed to keep it operational. It was a relaxed and lively discussion, despite it being the 10:15 am slot, and the Sunday after losing an hour due to British Summer Time! Gina and Brenda hope the topics they discussed helped people see the BIC from an insider’s point of view.
An important part of the discussion informed the listeners that the BIC is entirely self-funded. Howard was surprised to hear it does not receive any funding from any organisations, and that its funds are raised solely through the hard work of its volunteers.
Brenda and Gina said, as well as the BIC being there to help visitors coming to the town, the BIC also aims to support the local community. The friendly group of volunteers enjoy welcoming all into the centre. They recognise that people still like to talk and are glad to provide something more than just the information that might be available online.
The centre is heavily dependent on volunteers and couldn't function without them - a huge Thank You to you all! Gina recalled how she became a volunteer - new volunteers are always welcome, so if you are interested please call into the Centre to find out more.
Gina and Brenda mentioned the great fundraising events coming up over the next few months. Over the April school holidays we have an Easter Treasure Hunt, and Name the Bunny. Please support us and call into the Centre for your Treasure Hunt Question sheets and have a go at Name the Bunny. In May we have the Coronation Street Party for the town. A huge event where 660 people will join together in the High Street to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III. There are only a few tables left, so get your tickets now if you want to join us for this great event.
