Bicton Botanical Gardens

  • Bicton (3 miles) Bicton Botanical Gardens with over 60 acres of magnificent historic gardens once the home of the Rolle family. It also hosts a 19th Century glass Palm House reminiscent of Kew Gardens, a countryside museum and its Bicton Woodland Railway. The Victorian church offers many interesting features too. Bicton picnic concerts are held in the Park during July & August, tickets are available from the TIC. Bicton membership allows free entry to Morwellham Quay.
  • Topsham (10 miles) Situated on the Exe Estuary, an old port for Exeter with many narrow streets, interesting river frontage, shops and eating places.
  • Lympstone (8 miles) Pretty little village near to Exmouth, on the N.E. side of the Exe Estuary.
  • Exmouth (6 miles) The largest town in East Devon and gateway to the Jurassic Coast. It has a 3 mile sandy beach and seaside attractions which caters for families of all ages. www.visitexmouth.org/
  • Sidmouth (7 miles) Elegant, regency seaside town that became a popular resort in the 19th Century. National award winners for its many floral displays.
  • Otterton (3 miles) a picturesque village with many thatched cottages. Easy access to the cliffs and Ladram Bay, which has a small beach with interesting geological features.
  • East Budleigh (2 miles) A lovely  village and  the Birth place of “Sir Walter Raleigh” at Hayes Barton. On the edge of the village is the Salem Chapel  an old Dissenters Chapel built in 1719. The road continues to Yettington, home of the Bicton Arena with many horse events throughout the year.
  • Honiton (12 miles) A quiet yet thriving market town. Home of Honiton Lace and Pottery. it has a good range of shops and showrooms specialising in antiques.
  • Beer (15 miles) beautiful village nestling in a steep valley, with pebble beach noted for its fishing boats. Attractive cliff top area having magnificent views and plenty of room to park, walk, fly kites and picnic.
  • Branscombe (12 miles) A unique old village which stretches from the beach, about 2 miles up the valley. Old forge, fascinating cottages and good pubs. On the Sidmouth side of the village is the Donkey Sanctuary (free admission).
  • Ottery St. Mary (9 miles) Birthplace of the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, stands on the River Otter. The splendid church built in 1260 by Bishop Bronescombe and based on the model of Exeter Cathedral. Nearby is Escot Park, with its gardens and summer campfor children.
  • Seaton (18 miles) Situated at the mouth of the River Axe boasting a pebble beach, walled promenade and harbour. The town centre offers a mix of Victorian & Edwardian architecture.
  • Axminster (25 miles) Home of the Axminster Carpet, this ancient agricultural town is set in the beautiful Axe Valley. A general market is held each Thursday.
  • Exeter (14 miles) is an ancient city with its magnificent gothic cathedral, medieval underground passages and historic quayside.
