St Peter's Church

St Peter's C of E Church is situated just off the High Street in The Lawn opposite the Medical Centre. Built in 1893 it is light and airy due to the high roof and limited - although beautiful - stained glass.

​Weekly congregation numbers are around one hundred with two services every Sunday and a monthly Evensong. There is also a Communion service every Wednesday morning. Mainly the style of worship and music is traditional, with a robed choir.

The Peter Hall, adjacent to the church can be booked for functions.

Links with St Peter’s Primary School are well established and a Youth club in term time offers support and a safe place for primary school children.

Temple Methodist Church

Methodist worship has been held on this site for over two hundred years and still has a thriving congregation with over 100 members and our buildings are used by a large variety of groups throughout the week.

Youth Outreach: Held on Sunday mornings, for toddlers to mature teenagers.

Temple Methodist Church is part of the Exeter Coast and Country Methodist Circuit which consists of 28 Churches stretching from Axminster in the east to Whiddon Down on the edge of Dartmoor in the west, to Cheriton Fitzpaine to the north, and includes 5 churches in the City of Exeter.

Temple Methodist Church is a part of the Budleigh Churches Partnership and we are a host venue for various festivals, including the renowned Budleigh Salterton Music Festival held annually in July and the Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival held in September. They also provide a venue for a variety of concert/live music events throughout the year.

Budleigh Salterton Baptist Church

Budleigh Salterton Baptist Church is a welcoming and friendly group of Christians meeting in this beautiful part of Devon, and seeking to share the love, grace, and mercy of God here.

Their weekly worship services and opportunities to pray together are now being hosted both on-site and online. These include: weekly services, Family Worship, and more.

Church on the Green

The Church on the Green began in the 19th Century as a Brethren Chapel, but in more recent years it has sought to broaden its appeal to a wider evangelical community. In 2021, with numbers dwindling during the pandemic, the fellowship approached Scott Drive Church, Exmouth, with the offer of taking over its premises. This was agreed and was completed on 1st January 2022. Scott Drive Church is affiliated to the FIEC.

There is at present, therefore, one congregation whose main meeting is on Sunday mornings in Exmouth, although there are also meetings at the Church on the Green at other times.

The long-term goal of Scott Drive Church is to see the Church on the Green re-established as an independent, gospel-centred congregation in Budleigh Salterton.

St Peter, Prince of Apostles Roman Catholic Church

The Parish of The Holy Family (previously Holy Ghost Church Exmouth & St Peter, Prince of Apostles Budleigh Salterton) is within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Plymouth.

Along with their own community in Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton, Devon, the congregation of St Peter, Prince of Apostles welcomes visiting Roman Catholics from home or abroad and all those who may feel lost and seek answers to the meaning and purpose of their life on Earth.

​All Saints Church, East Budleigh

All Saints Church is at the heart of the community of East Budleigh with a church service every Sunday at 9.30am -usually Holy Communion. There is also a worship and prayers together each Tuesday at 9:30am, when the needs of the community are prayed for.

With strong links with Drakes Church of England School and various groups and activities involving church members and the wider community, including Friends of All Saints, the monthly Churchyard Working Party, the Square Circle knitting group, the Benefice Choir, and the Village Cafe. A monthly Parish News magazine is delivered free to every home in the Parish and helps to keep everyone in touch with what is happening in the village. 

The Church Hall is available for regular or one-off bookings.

St Michael's Church, Otterton

With an emphasis on church and community, the calendar of church events encourages much village support and the link with Otterton school next door is strong. The regular worshipping community, though small in number, support and encourage one another to develop and draw out different, unifying gifts and skills.

In 2017 the church was successful in their bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund and received a grant which helped safeguard the future of this beautiful church.

​The Salem Chapel

Located on the edge of East Budleigh, The Salem Chapel is an old Dissenters Chapel built in 1719 at a time when there were about 30 dissenters in East Budleigh alone.

The Chapel has had a colourful history in which smuggling played no small part. The minister from 1768 to 1807 was Samuel Leat who is reputed to have been a wealthy smuggler, and following his death in 1817 a scandal developed involving embezzled funds and the suspected suppression of his will. This culminated in the desecration of his grave in May 1818 when the grave was opened, the coffin wrecked and his body mangled.

The roof of the chapel is of great archaeological interest, being of a unique construction which allowed the storage of smuggled goods in its massive attic and also gave the facility of a hidden vantage point where a lookout could be posted to forewarn of the coming of any Revenue Men.
