Budleigh VE80 Street Party - Sunday 4th May 2025

An Afternoon of Sparkle and Fun

Picture
A great time was had by all at the VE80 Street Party held in Budleigh High Street.  The town centre came alive with more than 500 people joining in the fun, music and dancing.  Two rows of tables ran the length of the High Street from Cliff Road to Rolle Road, with many decorated with red, white and blue.

Budleigh Salterton Town Mayor, Caz Sismore-Hunt, officially opened the party and the party-goers celebrated by singing and dancing the afternoon away to fabulous vintage singer Sandy Sparkle and a wonderful selection of family favourites played by DJ Rob.

The day was organised by the Love Budleigh Team at Budleigh Information Centre.  Thank you to Budleigh Salterton Town Council and Coop Community Fund for sponsoring the event, the many traders and businesses who donated raffle prizes, and everyone who helped and contributed to make the day such a success.

Celebrations at the Budleigh Coronation Street Party

Picture
The event to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III was organised by the volunteers at the Budleigh Information Centre, and was held on Sunday 7th May from 12.30-5.30pm in the High Street.

It was sponsored by Budleigh Salterton Town Council, who gave money to the Information Centre to cover the cost of hiring the tables and chairs, the entertainment and other costs.

Thanks also go to members of Budleigh Community Workshop and other helpers, who turned up to assist with setting up the table and chairs and then re-loading them on the lorry after the event .

Local  traders and associations were very generous in donating vouchers for a raffle which raised over £1300. Outgoing Budleigh Mayor, Michael Hilliar, drew the first few winning  tickets on the raffle . It was his last duty as Mayor .

Proceeds of the party and raffle will go towards the upkeep of Budleigh  Information Centre, which is completely self funding.

The entertainment was provided by DJ Norman Saunders from the charity ‘Over and Above’.  He came from Barnstaple to host the event.

Roger Bourgein, the Exmouth Town Crier, attended and made announcements up and down the street.

Fortunately, with rainy days both on the Saturday before the event and the Monday afterwards, the day of the party was warm and sunny. There were 110 tables of 6, meaning that around 660 people were able to enjoy the party. There was a conga at one point and we all sang happy birthday to a couple of guests enjoying their birthday's. We also sang God Save the King and raised a toast to His Majesty. Later on, as the tables were being cleared, the merriment continued with party goers dancing in the street.

Everyone had a great time and it was great to see all age groups in the community come together to share the event.  After the success of this party and the one held last year, there are calls to make this a regular event. It does take a lot of organisation, so the team, who are all volunteers will have to get together to decide if this is possible.

Information for Party Goers

Timings
The Street Party will take place between 12.30 pm and 5.30 pm.

The High Street from Ragg Land to Chapel Street will be closed from 11 am until 7 pm.  Parking will be limited from 10 am to ensure the street is free from parked cars before the road is closed.

The volunteers will be busy getting 110 tables and 660 chairs set up as soon as the road is closed.  If you are able to help us in anyway on the day, please let us know – we’d love to hear from you!

Tables / Seating
Your table should be ready from 12.30 pm. Each table is provided with 6 chairs.  There is limited space between tables so please do not bring extra seating.  All tables will be clearly numbered, so please ensure you know your table number.

If sitting on a Mixed table, the seats are not numbered and you can choose where to sit.  Please co-operate with others on your tables so people can sit together.

Why not get dressed up in your finery and decorate your table to make the event even more special.  Each table is 6ft x 2ft.

Food and Drink
Remember to bring along a hamper with all your goodies, or why not use one of the many food outlets and takeaways available in Budleigh. Please try and buy locally to help support our wonderful local traders.

Entertainment
The DJ will be situated at the Dolphin café, and loudspeakers will be placed up and down the street. Please do not move the speakers or cover them.   If you have any requests on the day to get you in the party mood, please pop along and see him.

We're also pleased to welcome Exmouth's Town Crier, Roger Bourgein, who will be joining us to celebrate the event.

Raffle
Raffle tickets will be placed on your table and are available to buy at £1 a strip.  Please write your name and table number on the back of each purchased strip and place in the provided envelope with the correct money.  Further raffle tickets can be purchased if required, and you can pay by card if preferred – just call us over.  Please take your envelope containing your purchased tickets and money/card receipt to the Raffle table by 2.45 pm.  The Raffle is expected to take place about 3 pm.  There are some great prizes, and the Budleigh Major, Michael Hillier, has kindly agreed to draw the first few winners.  The remaining winning tickets will be drawn and prizes allocated.  If you have won, your prize will be brought to your table.

Going home
The party is due to finish at 5.30 pm.  We kindly ask that you take all your  rubbish home with you.
All table and chairs need to be ready to be loaded onto the lorry by 6.30 pm.  If you can stack your table and chairs on the pavement when your party leaves it would be a great help.  Please take care when folding table and chairs – if you decide to help with this you do so at your own risk.

Clean Up
If you are able to help with clearing the High Street at the end of the event, please let us know.  The setting up and clearing away of an event this size is a huge operation, so any help you may feel you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Sponsorship
We'd like to say a big 'Thank You' to Budleigh Salterton Town Council for supporting the Budleigh Information Centre by sponsoring the event.

Weather
We are very much hoping for good weather, but obviously this is unpredictable.  The Street Party will go ahead if the weather is wet but good enough to set up the tables, chairs and sound equipment. So, if wet, bring along your brollies and waterproofs so you can still join in the fun. If the weather is too bad, the party will be cancelled.

Cancellation
If we need to cancel the event, we will update our website to notify party goers as early as possible.  You can claim a refund - we ask that all refunds are requested within 30 days of the cancelled event.  The Budleigh Information Centre is entirely self funded and run by volunteers so the success of the street party will contribute greatly to keeping the centre open for another year.  In the unfortunate event that we need to cancel, any unclaimed refunds (full or partial), will be gratefully retained by the Budleigh Information Centre.

We hope the weather is kind for us and you have a fantastic time at the party!
