Fairlynch Museum
Fairlynch Museum is one of the few thatched museums in the country. It is grade II listed and dates back to 1810.
The building, originally named Primrose Cottage, was built by local ship-owner Matthew Lee Yeates. Inside it features a double-wing staircase and it is believed Yeates included the thatched turret so he could see his ships out in the bay.
In 1967 a group of four local ladies bought the property to display their large collection of costumes, art archaeology and geology, and it became the Arts Centre and Museum for the town.
The museum is run by volunteers and houses all sorts of information on Budleigh Salterton and the surrounding area, national collections of costumes and geological items.
The museum is open in the afternoons from 2 – 4.30 pm from April to the end of October. It is closed on Mondays unless it is a Bank Holiday. There is a small entrance fee.
