East Devon Golf Club
East Devon Golf Club is situated 400ft up on the cliffs between Budleigh Salterton and Exmouth, and is one of the best courses to play golf when in Devon. It offers 18 challenging holes set in the East Devon area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is ranked in the Top 100 Courses in the British Isles.
The championship course is one of the finest courses in the South-west. It was established in 1902 and designed by Harry Colt, and is blessed with excellent drainage so it can be enjoyed all year round.
The course is weaves its way through gorse and heather and has memorable holes, including the 16th tee shot which the late Peter Aliss described as “The best view in golf”. The course is described by National Club Golfer as “a southern gem” and “one of the best conditioned courses we have played across England’s south”.
Look out for the deer that are often seen crossing the fairways or grazing behind a green, and for buzzards and peregrine falcons flying overhead. The course has beautiful heather, an array of wildflowers - including orchids, violets and potentillas displaying at different times of the year.
