The Budleigh traders kept their doors open into the evening, offering a warm welcome to one and all. Christmas delights were on offer and many of the shops had decorated their windows with the theme of Christmas Movies, adding to the Christmas spirit.
At 6 pm the children from St Peter’s school joined the parade from St Peter’s Church to the Methodist car park for their carol service organised with the local church groups. Also joining the parade were Caz Sismore-Hunt, Budleigh’s town Mayor, the Exeter Morris dancers and - the man himself – Santa, who took a break from his busy schedule to join in the festivities with his Elves.
The street came alive under the sparkle of the town’s new Christmas lights, with superb entertainment being provided by East Devon Rock Choir, Exmouth Ladies A Cappella Group, Exeter Morris, the Salvation Army band and a visit by the Exmouth Fire Engine. A selection of buskers added further cheer by singing ‘loud and clear for all to hear’, with an array of music from Christmas pop to West End opera!
The evening was organised by Shop Budleigh and Love Budleigh, who would like to thank all the entertainers and traders for making this a very special and enjoyable night for the town. Thanks also to St Peter's School and the local church groups for organising the carol service, and to the many people working behind the scenes who allowed this event to take place, from first aiders to those marshalling the road closures.
If you would like to make a donation to the town's Christmas light fund, please contact Shop Budleigh for details, their email is [email protected].
Thanks to Peter Bowler and BIC volunteers for giving permission to use their photos.
